From the very first day, each and
every minute I spend with my students was an experience for me. Excited and
anxious eyes were found in the majority, the first day itself. They are anxious
about English and so much nervous about the communication in English. “The
thoughts of the listener” was the strongest obstacle was found among them. So
personally I felt the best quality of a trainer is, he should be a good
listener to his students. Listening is greatest process in life.
The
plus one results were announced, I asked them if they need any help for
improvement I’ll try to help them. And after the foundation classes of one hour
we started a class of 15 minutes with the permission of the school head.
Working without remuneration only for the satisfaction was a greater experience
for me. I spent more time for grammar and vocabulary, they only suggest for
grammar sessions. And they easily forgot grammar sessions only because they
don’t get chance to correct it was right or wrong while communicating. Our
foundation modules are well designed for learning grammar without knowing. And
communication sessions always have no role of grammar but still it is attached
to the process.
One of
my student gifted me a cane was used by his father from his childhood and by
gifting he’s happy with no more hurting from father, the cane was gifted for
the extra classes. He’s well aware about the facts that cane will not use in
ASAP classes. The same student was so much depressed about English. Most of the
time he used the words when I ask him to speak “he don’t know English, he don’t
know how to use English, I’m so nervous that even I don’t know the English
alphabets”. Then I asked him to write English words that he knows, what he’s
sees at house, surrounding, while returning from school and all. And he come up
with more than 300 words with a smile. I found errors in the paper he’s
written. But his heart was so correct and he was proud of what is written. He
is good painter also, due to family issues he couldn’t follow it. I only met
him more than just 70% of the foundation classes. But when I met he’s so
anxious about learning English.
As I
said in my last post, don’t compress the foundation into just one hour or some
extra outdoor activities, try to experience them ASAP is lifelong learning
experience not only in the language also in the competency. Daily, give them
home tasks, treat them as our lids. And don’t let your lid a chance to close. I
know they have more knowledge than us, they know more technologies than us,
they always feels to get respect from others. More than anything, caring and
spending time for them will help to find higher goals in life.
Last
words, “respect your students” is a common usage hearing and reading here and there,
but try to experience it. All 180 hours not be good or greater experience,
there is always a 50-50 chance of winning and failing in sessions. If you
failed, admit that. If you don’t know what that is, admit it. There is nothing
shame to bow your than wearing masks. If you don’t know the words or phrases
find it in front of the students itself by using internet or dictionary. Let
them learn the values of life than learning skills. Be honest to the each and
every student in front of you.
NB: the last words are not my thoughts, it was I experienced
from ASAP family and I followed from other SDEs of family and other faculties
of ASAP.
Thank you.
